PlateSure is a trading name of Secure Data Hygiene Ltd, registered in England and Wales. When you use platesure.co.uk, Secure Data Hygiene Ltd is the data controller responsible for your personal data.

What data we collect
We collect the following personal data when you use PlateSure:
- When you run a vehicle check: the vehicle registration number you enter, and your email address and payment details via Stripe (our payment processor). We do not store your card details — these are handled entirely by Stripe.
- When you contact us: your name and email address.
- Automatically when you visit: your IP address, browser type, pages visited, and time on site via analytics tools. This data is anonymised and aggregated.
How we use your data
We use your personal data only for the following purposes:
- To process your payment and deliver your vehicle history report
- To send you the report by email
- To respond to any queries or support requests you send us
- To improve our service using anonymised analytics data
- To comply with our legal obligations
We do not sell your personal data to third parties. We do not use your data for marketing without your explicit consent.
Legal basis for processing
We process your personal data on the following legal bases under UK GDPR:
- Contract performance: processing your payment and delivering your report
- Legitimate interests: improving our service and preventing fraud
- Legal obligation: retaining financial records as required by HMRC
Third parties we share data with
We share limited data with the following trusted third parties in order to provide our service:
- Stripe: payment processing. Your payment details are handled directly by Stripe and are subject to their privacy policy at stripe.com/privacy.
- MyCarCheck (CDL Vehicle Information Services Ltd): vehicle history data. The registration number you enter is passed to MyCarCheck to generate your report. Their privacy policy is at mycarcheck.com.
- DVLA: basic vehicle data (make, model, MOT status) is retrieved via the DVLA Vehicle Enquiry Service API.
- Netlify: website hosting. Netlify processes server logs which may include your IP address.
We do not share your data with any other third parties.
How long we keep your data
- Payment and transaction records: 7 years, as required by HMRC
- Email correspondence: 2 years
- Analytics data: anonymised and retained indefinitely
Your rights
Under UK GDPR you have the following rights regarding your personal data:
- Right of access: you can request a copy of the personal data we hold about you
- Right to rectification: you can ask us to correct inaccurate data
- Right to erasure: you can ask us to delete your data, subject to our legal retention obligations
- Right to restrict processing: you can ask us to limit how we use your data
- Right to data portability: you can ask for your data in a machine-readable format
- Right to object: you can object to processing based on legitimate interests

PlateSure uses minimal cookies. We use essential cookies required for the site to function (such as session management) and anonymised analytics cookies to understand how visitors use the site. We do not use advertising or tracking cookies.
